We are currently recruiting for a Senior Buyer to proactively support the Head of Supply Chain.
The Senior Buyer will be expected to evaluate suppliers, negotiate contracts and work with the Quality and Engineering teams to ensure we have the right suppliers in place and performing. The ability to control the flow of material both in and out of production to meet the high expectation of customer demand is essential and the position holder will be able to apply best practice and methodology at all stages within the supply chain, both reducing waste and working capital whilst maintaining service levels to agreed standards.
With strong technical capabilities and a familiarity with drawings and specifications the Senior Buyer will also be part of the technical team consisting of Business Development, Commercial, Engineering and Operations when assessing new business opportunities and pulling together bids for new work packages.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical/commercial assistance to the Purchasing and Engineering functions to develop awareness of manufacturing processes and improve product knowledge
- Align the supply chain with technical, commercial and operational activities
- Improve and simplify methods of working, procedures and systems through continuous improvement activities and system enhancement
- Produce and report on weekly and monthly Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as agreed with the Head of Supply Chain (e.g. OTIF, savings, overdues), whilst monitoring supplier performance through the Live Dashboard
- Liaise with departmental managers across both sites to ensure customer requirements are met while optimising cost.
- Liaise with suppliers to communicate performance issues, hold to account and provide support to achieve improvements
- Ensure LTA’s/ Agreements in place with Sub Contractors and support planning in the event of any delivery or quality issues
- Support maintenance, engineering, quality and any other departments on agreeing pricing and contracts for the departments as well as sourcing alternative suppliers
- Work closely with all suppliers to ensure product shipments meet customer requirements and have the ability to refuse or reject any supplier demands which may disrupt internal production or shipments to customers.
- Lead negotiations with internal and external suppliers and customers to achieve business objectives and strategic direction.
- Negotiate, drive for and maintain favourable terms and conditions of supply. All critical negotiations should be approved by the Head of Supply Chain incorporating internal policy and agreed levels of sign-off.
- Process map all activity both internally and externally within the supply chain, enabling best knowledge of the key aspects of procurements of any key items.
- Attend and support other key departments for both new and existing projects customer projects, advising on procurement options and best policies to meet customer targets and test deadlines.
- Ensure appropriate customer approvals are in place and/or undertake action to meet customer approval requirements.
- Lead quarterly review with all strategic suppliers ensuring all pillars of the supply chain are discussed, highlighting any potential opportunities for continuous improvement. All internal and external supply meetings must be recorded and copies available with the relevant supplier folders.
- Support Internal and External Audits as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of fundamental set-up of MRP systems
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing technology and tools
- The position holder will be fully conversant in all areas of both tactical and strategic procurement to ensure all Radius Aerospace UK objectives are met.
- The position holder will be able to demonstrate an understanding of contract law in relation to the procurement of material, goods and services.
- Qualified to Level 5 of CIPS or relevant experience is required if the applicant does not have the necessary qualification
- Experience in a similar industry
- Experience of people management
